The wolf has caught up. The girl walks the dirt path away from the viewer in a long red cloak, hood up, basket of pies held in one hand at her side — and the wolf paces alongside her with its yellow eyes fixed on the basket, not on her. Sunlit forest closes in on both sides.
The red cloak takes up nearly a third of the frame and is the one saturated note in an otherwise muted, almost cinematic palette of forest greens, warm browns, and dusty path tones.
