Raven Perched on a Skull

A sleek black raven perches proudly atop a weathered human skull, sharp beak slightly parted and a single glowing red eye locked onto the viewer. Painterly brushstrokes carve its feathers in layers of inky black and cool steel blue highlights, catching the edge of the wing and tail. The skull below rests in profile, pale cream bone washed with teal and crimson reflections from the sky, its hollow eye sockets staring blankly past the viewer.

Behind them, a massive blood red moon fills the sky, framed by swirling dark clouds and the twisted silhouettes of bare branches with scattered black leaves. Two deep crimson roses bloom at the base of the skull, picking up the color of the moon one last time. A dramatic gothic palette built on the classic clash of hot crimson against deep navy and jet black, with cool teal highlights carving every surface. Bold shapes and painterly brushwork make for a satisfying color-blocking session, with plenty of finer detail moments in the feather layers, cracked skull sutures, leafy branches, and rose petals to finish on.
