Peacock in a Lotus Garden
Majestic peacock with a shimmering tail of blues, teals, and golds among blooming lotus flowers.
What happens when you put a peacock in a watercolor?
The bird is rendered in deep cobalt and teal scales, with a sweeping tail that drapes all the way to the bottom of the frame in eye-spotted plumes of jade, navy, and copper. But the surrounding forest is washed out on purpose — pale blue trees, ghost-soft branches, lotus blossoms in dusty pink floating on a faint pool to the right.
The contrast is the design. A jewel-toned subject in a misty, drained-color world. Best for colorists who like to leave the background restrained so the bird can carry the whole piece — and who enjoy the slow work of filling dozens of tail-feather eyes one at a time.
