Start with the stones. A pale, crooked walkway of irregular pavers cuts straight up the middle of the composition and gives every other element a reason to crowd in around it — pink zinnias on the left, orange poppies and purple cosmos on the right, a willow drooping overhead, a wisteria-tangled arbor in the back.
It's a busy page. Foliage and blossoms pile on top of each other in flat, painterly shapes against a teal sky, with deep shadow zones holding the whole thing together. The stones are the only place the eye gets to rest.
