Arches National Park: Desert Arch by Moonlight
A dramatic red rock landscape with the iconic sandstone arch of Arches National Park in Moab, Utah.
What does Arches look like at night with a full moon hanging in the corner?
Mostly orange rock and a lot of dark blue. The arch itself frames the composition — sandstone curving across the top of the page, glowing warm from some unseen low light — and through the opening you can see distant rock fins standing in a cooler, deeper desert. The moon sits high right, ringed in pale halo.
The contrast is the design. Warm rock against cold sky, foreground against the framed view, single light source pulling the eye through the arch. A few sage-green shrubs scatter the foreground for texture. Built for colorists who want a limited palette but a lot of value range to push around inside it.
