Start with the stitched smile. The scarecrow's mouth is the strongest line on the page, a long row of black cross-stitches curving across a round cream face, and almost every other element radiates out from it: pink blush circles, a small triangle carrot nose, two soft grey button eyes, straw bursting out from under a slumped pointed hat.
