Start with the gold. A dark cauldron heaped with overflowing gold coins sits center-frame, a green leprechaun hat propped against its base, a four-leaf clover leaning against the rim, and a faint pastel rainbow arching over the top.
Small format, simple composition, almost no background — just a few coins scattered on a green ground and some sparkle marks in the air. The work is in the coins themselves: dozens of overlapping discs that have to read as metallic without going muddy. Once those are settled, the rest of the piece falls into place quickly.
