Cobblestone Alley Sunset Walk

Start with the sky. It's three-quarters of why this image works — coral, magenta, peach, lavender, all streaked horizontally above the rooftops — and once you've committed to those bands the rest of the page basically tells you what it needs.

The scene below is a narrow stone alley running up a flight of cobbled steps, walls leaning in from either side, a single warm lamp glowing on the right and a small silhouetted figure walking up toward the light. Almost everything in the foreground is in deep blue-violet shadow.

The contrast is the entire piece: blazing sky against near-black architecture. A short list of colors doing a lot of mood work. Better suited to colorists who like atmosphere over detail and don't mind blocking in large dark shapes.
