A red canoe pulled up to the bank of an autumn lake. Maple trees crowd the left side of the page in fierce reds, oranges, and yellows, the water below catches all of it back as broken reflections, and a few stray leaves drift on the surface.
Roughly half the design is reflection rather than solid object, which means the colorist's job is mostly about handling broken edges and rippled color rather than rendering form. The boat is the one clean piece of geometry in an otherwise dissolving scene — a single anchor of crimson on still water.
