Painter's Easel by a Sunlit Window

For the long Sunday afternoon when you want to color the studio you wish you had. Tall casement windows on the left flood the room with white morning light; a wooden easel holds an in-progress harbor painting at center; a leafy potted fern fills the corner; a stool, a side table cluttered with brushes, and a framed canvas leaning against the wall fill out the rest.

The palette is honest and warm — cream walls, ochre wood, dusty blues from the painting-within-the-painting, soft greens from the plant. Lots of light-and-shadow work on the floor where the window light pools.

The piece-on-the-easel is its own small project: a watercolor-feeling river scene with sailboats, mostly muted blues and warm shoreline tones.

Suited to colorists who like rendering rooms more than rendering subjects. A meditative one.
